Apologist Matt Slick has thrown around a theory that I find quite interesting. Whether you are a fan of CARM or not it is conjecture worth looking at. Mr. Slick from what I see feels that God had the scriptures written in such a way that unbelievers would not truly understand the Bible or completely miss the case or target messages of many of its books.

While the elect ones fundamentally understand God’s targeted message because they have been chosen by God to know and understand his message and heart. We can get a glimpse of this with 2nd Thessalonians 2: 13-14

13 But we should always give thanks to God for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God has chosen you [a]from the beginning for salvation [b]through sanctification [c]by the Spirit and faith in the truth. 14 It was for this He called you through our gospel, [d]that you may gain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Again in 1 Peter 2:9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;

This idea to me has validity since many will hear but few will act. So many are clueless and few understand; you see this in everyday life both in the church and in open life.

In 1st Peter 2:7 This precious value, then, is for you who believe; but for those who disbelieve, “The stone which the builders rejected, This became the very corner stone,” and in Matthew 22:14 14 For many are [a]called, but few are chosen.”

Interesting here I have seen many people get caught in scripture and just unable to make sense of it. You can see this not only in the Atheist but in main stream Christian churches today.

People just unable to fully grasp what God is saying, this is where maybe people are just getting frustrated with the Gospel and either completely walking away from it with contempt like the Atheist or they change it to help make sense of it all.

Not understanding what they have done by changing the word of God they end up making it a religion instead of what should have been a relationship.

It definitely opens the dialogue to why so many people find Gods target message so hard to understand and attempt to tinker with scripture to fit their idea of salvation.

This works for both the believer and non believer as we see in lukewarm or stone cold churches and cults like the LDS and  Jehovah’s witnesses. Some have completely lost their flavor while others have totally missed the mark by adding to or taking away from the scripture.

Yes the Bible can be mind bending at times but the overall message is simple to understand, so why do so many miss the mark and so few stay on target?

Luke 8:9-11 His disciples began questioning Him as to what this parable meant. 10 And He said, “To you it has been granted to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God, but to the rest it is in parables, so that seeing they may not see, and hearing they may not understand.

Something worth debate and kicking around, I do understand that not everyone is reformed so I don’t expect everyone to agree when we are talking about chosen ones.

Defending the Gospel within our own against watered down Christianity and doctrine that is taking bits and pieces here and there and making a false Gospel becomes our duty for the Glory Jesus.

If we love our neighbor church down the road I would think we would want them to at least be on par or on the same page as a Gospel believing church or Christian should be.

We will have small disagreements here and there but let that not stop us from knowing and spreading God’s truth.

Mind you this just my opinion I’m not trying to pin down an argument and I do my best to back it up with scripture, there is no knowingly trying to take the Bible and Gods word out of context this is purely conjecture and debate.

Even if God gave us a thousand years to study his word we still would never stop learning from him.
