JUDGING HYPOCRISY

Saw this posted on FB a day or two ago was slightly intrigued but what the person who posted had in mind. The problem I have with these types of post is they really don’t tell the whole story of the verse.

I feel at times this kind of post can take away from its true meaning and for Christians that have not studied or are new to Christianity it can be used as a device to misguide them from their understanding of God and the Bible. I can see non nonChristians and bitter Christians using this against people to further divide and shake the faith of a Christian

First of all what is this verse. Matthew 7-1: “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. Wait there is more here that should have been added to this. Matthew 7- For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

So this post only show verse 1, verse 2 is just as important; let us go further. Matthew 7: “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye. (NIV translation)

I enlarged the word in verse five of what I believe verses 1-5 are truly saying, HYPOCRITE. Yes the H word the word that defines a lot of us, if you do a search for hypocrite in the New Testament you will see it used over 17 times in Matthew, Mark and Luke. If you read each verse you get an idea that Jesus was not very fond of hypocrisy.

So it’s safe to say God is not fond of hypocrisy but when it come to judging one another God expects us to protect and take care of each other and judge with carefulness. John 24:7 Jesus said “Stop judging by mere appearances, but instead judge correctly.” (NIV)

Be smart in judgment of your fellow man don’t judge out of spite, jealousy or hatred but out of love and concern, if not for the person then for the person being wronged. If we don’t judge our fellow man for the wrongs that one commits then we are turning our eyes and ears away from evil and letting a soul continue to slide further into sin.

My biggest concern for this type of post is of people getting it wrong and misinterpreting what God is saying. Don’t judge a man for stealing bread for his family while you lie to the  minimart cashier that you gave him a twenty dollar bill when in fact  you only gave him a ten so you can use the change get in the lottery pool at work.

Judging a person for their contempt for human life is a valid judgment we should judge to make things right. We should never judge if we use slander, greed or hypocrisy. Our goal is to represent God and to judge rightly and Godly, not for revenge but for the justness that God has set forth for us.

Final thoughts let’s not take scripture out of context just to cover up our sins, if I judge you it should be because I care about you and on the same playing field you are to judge me if I am wrong or do wrong.

Mr. T- just my point of view
